Amcor to debut recyclable monomaterial laminate for healthcare packaging at Compamed

07 Nov 2023 — Amcor has launched a monomaterial PE laminate designed to accommodate various packaging formats, which can replace non-recyclable lidding for 3D thermoformed packages, commonly used for drapes, protective materials, catheters, injection systems and tubing.
The laminate can also be applied to 2D pouches for products such as wound care materials and gloves.
Amcor will debut the laminate at Compamed, the leading international trade fair for the medical technology sector, held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from November 13 to 16.
Daniel Roiz, sales and marketing director of Amcor HealthCare EMEA, emphasizes the significance of the launch: “This launch demonstrates our commitment to innovation for the healthcare industry and showcases the incredible work of Amcor’s R&D experts. Our mono-PE solution addresses the key issue of medical packaging recyclability and is a significant step toward helping the medical sector safely embrace more sustainable packaging solutions.”
Amcor Recycle-Ready Medical Laminates for wound care.“We are committed to continuing to advance our portfolio toward delivering on our pledge to develop all of Amcor’s packaging to be recyclable or reusable by 2025.”
All-film packaging
With the healthcare industry undergoing transformative changes, the demand for environmentally sustainable packaging practices that do not compromise device safety and performance is growing.
Amcor’s new Recycle-Ready Medical Laminates offer a solution to medical device manufacturers, enabling them to “take a step forward in their environmental sustainability journey without sacrificing patient safety.”
Developing all-film packaging that is recyclable within the PE stream helps reduce the carbon footprint of the final package and maintains the essential performance requirements of device applications, ensuring patient safety is not compromised.
Amcor also recently acquired Phoenix Flexibles in India to spread advanced film technology and enable local production of a broader range of more environmentally sustainable packaging solutions.
