Our Book of the Month for May is De Sortibus: A Letter to a Friend about the Casting of Lots, by Thomas Aquinas, translated by Peter Carey.
Around 1270 Aquinas wrote a letter to a friend on whether lots could be used to seek God’s will in the appointment of a bishop. It’s an interesting look at medieval views on luck and chance, and when casting lots is a good idea and when it’s just superstition. You can learn more about the book from the publisher’s website.
It is available for our readers based in the United States and Canada who sign up to our Patreon page at either the $45 (US) or $65 (US) tier between now and the end of May. Then we will send your shipping information to the publisher who will send you the book.
