Our Book of the Month for June is The Book of Charlatans, by Jamāl al-Dīn ʿAbd al-Raḥīm al-Jawbarī, and translated by Humphrey Davies.
The Book of Charlatans is a comprehensive guide to trickery and scams as practiced in the thirteenth century in the cities of the Middle East, especially in Syria and Egypt. Al-Jawbarī was well versed in the practices he describes and may have been a reformed charlatan himself. You can learn more about the book from the publisher’s website.
It is available for our readers based in the United States and Canada who sign up to our Patreon page at either the $45 (US) or $65 (US) tier between now and the end of June. Then we will send your shipping information to the publisher who will send you the book.
You also get ad-free access to both the Medievalists.net website and The Medieval Podcast.
